Spiced Apple Pie Smoothie

Despite falling temperatures and a chill in the air, I still love my smoothies. Maybe it’s because it never gets that cold in California, but a blend of fruit and wholesome ingredients just makes me feel good. During the winter, however, I gravitate less toward things like mango, pineapple, and papaya and opt for heartier blends like a banana chai milkshake, peanut butter cup shake, and this apple pie smoothie. Redolent with seasonal spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and fresh ginger—and sweetened with Medjool dates and maple syrup—this creamy smoothie tastes just like the dessert. And do try it with the Honeycrisp apple … it’s both sweet and tart, and perfectly complements the warming spices.

Serves 1

What you need:

  • 1 Honeycrisp apple, peeled and cored
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened oat milk or water
  • 2 tablespoons raw almonds
  • 3 Medjool dates
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla bean powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon fresh grated ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  •
  • What you do:

  1.  Into a high-speed blender, place all ingredients. Blend to a creamy consistency.

Healthy hints:

  • >> Other apples work well, too. For a more tart smoothie, try Granny Smith. For a sweeter smoothie, try Fuji.
